Saturday, July 31: 33rd Annual Tacoma Aroma 7's Tournament

Portland Avenue Play Fields

By Volcano Staff on July 28, 2010

How many folks out there knew Tacoma hosts one of the biggest and best rugby 7's tournament in the entire region? OK, how many people even know what rugby 7's is? A primer may be in order. Rugby 7's is an exciting variation on the traditional game, played on smaller fields with fewer players (seven as opposed to 15. Get it?). For the last 33 years, Tacoma has hosted a summer 7's tournament featuring some of the best MALE rugby teams in the area. What's especially exciting about this year's event, however, is IT WILL FEATURE WOMEN'S 7's TEAMS FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME, drawing six of the top female rugby teams in the Northwest. The action goes down at the Portland Avenue Play Fields in East Tacoma.

PREDICTION: It'll be exciting, but in the end there won't be enough touchdowns to capture anyone's attention for long. Later, six female rugby teams make us pay for this statement.
