Saturday, Sept. 17: Living History Day

Historic Fort Steilicoom

By Volcano Staff on September 15, 2011

Living in the 19th century probably sucked. What with the smallpox and the utter lack of Walgreens and stuff. Forget being bummed because your cell phone battery is dead. They DIDN'T EVEN HAVE PHONES BACK THEN. Gasp! But maybe, somewhere deep down, there were some cool things about living in the 19th century. Especially if you were a soldier.  Maybe you just need someone to demonstrate how cool it actually was. Saturday, volunteers at Lakewood's Historic Fort Steilicoom will show what it was like to live and work at Ol' Fort Steilicoom. The lives of soldiers, officers, their wives, children and friends will be reenacted at this Living History Immersion Event. Donations are accepted. Confederate money not allowed.

[Historic Fort Steilacoom, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., donations, on the grounds of Western State Hospital, 9601 Steilacoom Blvd., Lakewood, 253.582.5838]
