WHAT'S THE WORD?: We (still) Out Here

A party-starter, an anniversary and a new video

By Josh Rizeberg on June 15, 2011

Last week we talked about the importance of a DJ. The DJ's most important job is to make us dance. So, what if ya love hip-hop, but ya don't necessarily want to see a show? Maybe ya just want to dance. ...

Then ya need to check out DJ Berry.

DJ Berry learned the ropes from Tacoma's hip-hop statesman, O.G. General Wojack. Even before his Def City Posse days, and before he started eating mics, Wojack was a DJ. Having been trained by such a great teacher, DJ Berry has hit the ground running, spinning at all the local party spots from the 360 up to the 425 and all area codes in between. She spins hip-hop with a touch of dance and reggaeton music thrown in. Ya'll can hear her mixes on soundcloud.msdjberry.com and on vyzionradio.com. DJ Berry will be rocking the Imperial VIP in Seattle this Friday and Imusic (which clubbers refer to as the Zu), also in Seattle, on Saturday.

However, if ya do want to go see some local hip-hop,  I highly suggest hitting the one-year anniversary of S.P.'s "We Out Here Showcase." This goes down Saturday, June 18, at Clover Park Technical College in the McGavick Center, building #23. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m. with a $10 cover. S.P. is a Washington state hip-hop legend. I'm not going to break down his history in this article. He has been written about - deservedly - many times before.

So what's new for S.P.? He plans to expand his successful brand, "We Out Here Showcase" and his MC battles into Tacoma and Portland. If ya a hungry up-and-comer or if ya have some new material to bust out, hit up S.P. for a slot in one of his showcases. He can be found on Facebook.

If ya have a case of the lazies and ya not trying to venture out, then YouTube Fice's new video, "In the Kitchen," produced by Erik Soderquist. Soderquist is a hip-hop Renaissance man. He's dope at producing, MCing, directing, photography and graphic design. In other word, he's a true artist.
