Story behind the photos

My three-day weekend in words.

From the very bottom of my heart, I wish that every weekend was a three-day weekend, especially because the Memorial Day weekend that we just had was wonderful.

If you were checking out our blog over the weekend (you should always read the blog, www.weeklyvolcanospew.com) you more than likely got a sneak peek of some pictures that captured my adventures (at least the most appropriate ones).

Now I’m going to drop the stories behind those escapades during our unexpected sunny weekend (YEA!).

Friday couldn’t have arrived any faster. To start the weekend off on the right foot, I headed to Matador for happy hour for one of those tasty margaritas and the cheap quesadilla and Tex Mex spring rolls.

After my tummy was full, I headed home because your party-animal Carmen was dog tired after staying out too late Thursday night, and I settled into a nice, soothing nap.

I woke up just in time to get ready and head to Maxwell’s where I met Little Liz. I honestly thought that the Tacoma nightlife would be slow due to the holiday, but the expensive gas prices kept everyone in town, and it seems like they were all at Maxwell’s.

I ordered a downright sensual cheese plate and the vodka cranberry paired nicely. For the first time ever, DJs were spinning and providing the umch, umch. My shoulders were shaking, I was surrounded by friends, and I was so damn happy to have three days off.

Saturday I headed to Lincoln Hardware to get a key made for Bianca’s move in. There I met Bullwinkle, the moose head on display that I had never noticed before. After, I dropped that key in Bianca’s hot little hand. Hooray!

As for the afternoon, I dropped into Neighborhood Coffee and Espresso (you MUST go there, 34th and McKinley Avenue) for my caramel macchiato and conversation, then I stopped by the Top of Tacoma where I scored an update on how they’ll soon have outdoor seating (with toy tops included in the fence design).

By nightfall, I couldn’t wait to go to the Randy Hansen, Jimi Hendrix emulator, show. Jazzbones was super busy with so many people like me who were amazed at how Hansen sounds like Hendrix in a very eerie way. Dare I mention the fact that the song “Foxy Lady” will most certainly be on my movie soundtrack. What an awesome show.

After, a batch of us Weekly Volcano jugheads went to O’Mally’s for the Bumma Stoge show. Employees from the Rock were represetin’ cuz the band works there. O’Mally’s was buzzing as a result. Bumma Stoge rocks!

I snuck out just before the end of the show so that Carmen could get some long-overdue Zs.

Sunday, Little Lizzle and I went to Marcia’s Silver Spoon for the best breakfast I’ve had in Tacoma. If you haven’t been, you really need to check out this cozy, family-owned diner. Fruit plate = YUM!

Later, I took on the daunting task of mowing my overgrown backyard, and celebrated the completion of that task with an evening at the Top of Tacoma (I heart Lauren).

All of the above were Memorial-day miracles.
