Olympia's eccentricity and talent is on full display

It’s a new week, which means it’s time for another (super spooky) installment of Bobble Tiki’s South Sound music news and notes column. Without further a(boo!), let’s get rolling.

Bobble Tiki loves him some Halloween. It’s easily on his list of top 27 holidays — and for good reason. Think about it. Every other day of the year, if Bobble Tiki shows up someplace dressed like Magnum P.I. he’d get ridiculed mercilessly. But on Halloween the outfit totally works. Since Bobble Tiki really, really likes to dress up like Magnum P.I., he and Halloween are, like, totally besties.

One of Bobble Tiki’s favorite, long-running Halloween traditions is Olympia’s Night of the Living Tribute Bands — held every year at the Capitol Theater on the ghostly night of revelry. This year’s spectacle, to be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, of course, will be hosted by “Olympia’s own ladies of burlesque, TUSH” according to Audrey Henley of the Olympia Film Society, which produces the event.

In case you’re not familiar with the format of Night of the Living Tribute Bands, basically all of Olympia’s regularly awesome musicians and artists get together to pay tribute to some of the greatest acts in music history. While it may be a one night event, some of these thrown together tribute acts practice for months in advance.

It’s a sight to be seen, — and heard — to say the least. Olympia’s eccentricity and talent is on full display.

This year’s Night of the Living Tribute Bands will include performances by Judas Priest, Meatloaf, Danzig, B52’s, The Faces, Yardbirds, and the Runaways — all done Olympia tribute style, of course. Those that attend dressed in costume will be entered into a raffle for passes to the upcoming Olympia Film Festival.

Oh, and did Bobble Tiki mention there’s a beer garden too?

So snug. So going.

Happy Halloween.
